Thanks for transcribing "Bats' Unfortunate," Andromeda! I sure appreciate the time and energy you put into making BTB posts more accessible. The bat story was a tough one for me - I literally held back tears that morning, fearing I was condemning that animal to death because I didn't know how to help it.
Not all the prisoners around me lacked empathy. Many probably never even had a chance to feel it in this case, actually. Plenty of others were just as clueless as me and maybe tried to defeat their feelings of ineffectiveness by projecting a facade of unconcern. Who knows? In any event, I'm glad you liked the post, and I hope others do too.
Did you look at "Gopher Broke"? It's kind of similar. :)
